Our Story

2013

The beginning of our journey started with SPSK, the first Shingai Group subsidiary. Founded by Phili Sibiya and Sam Kachikoti after the delivery of a single truck of Schweppes Mazoe Orange. This initial stock filled up their yard and sparked the idea of growing beyond just Mazoe.

2015

SPSK rebrands and begins distribution for some of Zimbabwe's sizeable food brands in South Africa. By November 2015, SPSK offered the largest selection of premium African food products to retailers, supermarkets, wholesalers, bars & restaurants, and informal traders both locally and overseas.

2017

African Basket, The Taste of Home is born. Starting with a single store in Midrand was just the beginning. At our stores, we celebrate the diversity and authenticity of African cuisine, bringing flavours from across the continent directly to our customers. Our diamond in the coal has shone ever brighter – now with 16 stores across South Africa we will continue to grow.

2018

Shingai Group is officially consolidated forming a group holding company for all its business divisions. The name "Shingai" represents the courage, bravery, and resilience it took to pursue this dream of creating a successful company.

2018

Shingai Group opens its Sandton HQ to increase collaboration and efficiency, allowing us to better leverage our resources and streamline our operations.
